AndroidTM Smartphones: Not all Android(TM) Smartphones are created equal. Upon insertion of the iDeskPet into the headphone jack and turning it ON. Must also uncheck the “Audible Selection” in the Settings/Sound phone menu so that the phone doesn't make noise when the screen is touched.
Turn OFF the Button Sound
Please make sure the system button sound Audible Selection is disabled. To do this:
press the 'home button', followed by 'menu button' -> 'setting' -> 'Sound and display', uncheck the 'Audible selection' box.
Turn OFF the Equalizer
Recently we have found that some of the recent type of android phone has an "equalizer" ability which is significantly affecting the performance of the android app. To deal with this, simple go to:
"Home" -> "Setting" -> "Sound" -> "Media audio effects" -> "Phone speaker" -> disable the "audio effects" or "equalizer"
Turn ON the Media Volume
Please make sure the 'Media Volume' is at about 30 – 50%, please noted that we are talking about 'Media Volume' but not 'Ringer Volume'.

Hardware Troubleshooting
Reset button: If the TankBot doesn’t switch ON or recharge when plugged into the USB port, push and hold the reset button (located on bottom) for 2 seconds. Can also be used to immediately put Tankbot into Mode 1. Mode button: Changing a mode of operation of the Tankbot from Mode 2 to Mode 3 may result in the Tankbot switching back to Mode 1. Switching between Modes more slowly is recommended.
Mode 1: In obstacle avoidance mode, the Tankbot searches for obstacles and does not travel in a straight line. If no obstacles are found, it spins around and goes to sleep. Waving an object within a few centimeters in front of the product will wake it up. If a climbing angle of Tankbot is too steep, it will reverse turn.
Mode 2: In light and sound mode, if a climbing angle of the Tankbot is too steep, it will reverse turn.
Mode 3 Control: iDeskPet Universal Remote must be aimed at the Tankbot from a distance of 1m to 3m and towards the front black screen of the Tankbot and not from behind. If the item is not controlled for more than 60 seconds, it spins around and goes to sleep.
iDeskPet Universal Remote: The iDeskPet unit powers off after 3 minutes of not being used, switch it OFF and then ON again to resume operation.

It will be available in end of Summer. Where? We will update that shortly. I’m not familiar with SPCIA certification. But it will have all necessary certs for 8+ rating. We are negotiating with resellers.

Just found out about these guys and I am in LOVE! Problem is Toys R Us still doesn't sell them and despite RadioShack saying they ship to stores for free, they are still charging for it?

<p>Dear Admin…i work at a radioshack and we just got our first shipment of tankbots. I sold one which seemed to set up ok on an iphone4, but the infrared transmitter does not transmit. I checked batteries and opened another tankbot, which didn't transmit to its tankbot. I used an infrared tester to check for signal from the transmitters and neither one was sending a signal…what am i doing wrong…any ideas I could try? we uninstalled and reinstalled app to no avail..</p>

Also, you need to aim the iDesk Pet Universal Remote at the Tankbot and have it perpendicular to the face of the phone. Not sideways!
I just bought TWO TankBots (after looking for them for weeks!!!!)… They are GREAT! …BUT… I can't seem to make the iPad Remote work. I have tried everything that was written online… but nothing. Any idea what I may be doing wrong??? Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

<p>I just bought a Tankbot at Radioshack and It will only turn on when I bush the reset button. I can turn it off with the normal button, but to turn it on again, I need to push the reset button. Also, my Droid X phone does not show the Tankbot remote as in the videos, just the one for your other products. </p>
For the tankbot the droid controller is different than for the iphone. Not all droids are multi touch.
For turning ON tankbot, using reset works well. However if you do have it flat on a table and push the mode button, this also works. If its not flat, then that could explain the issue.

Tankbot will work with your phone. You must ensure the idesk pets universal remote is turned ON, plugged in to the headphone jack, the volume NOT MUTED and the follow the install instructions. It works for ALL Android phones/tablets from 2.1 and upwards.

Hi! bought two of these as gifts. The recipients own an iPod Touch and iPad. The device is advertised to work with both. I can only see an iPhone app in iTunes. The integration capability is the 'selling' point for the product. Will it work with an iPod or iPad as a controller?? Are they to download the iPhone app (can they)? As I only own an iPhone I can't check this out myself.
The iDesk Pets universal remote works with all idevices (iphone, ipad, ipod touch). Also it works with all Android devices from Android 2.1 upwards.
Thanks. It is named incorrectly based on your comments. The universal remote should not be called an app for the iPhone. If it works on all idevices, there should be an App name/type for that.

The Smartphone Mode of my Tankbot doesnt work!
I have a iPhone 4, the App installed, but when I switch to Smartphone mode, nothing happens.
The Remote is plugged in in the iPhone, it´s the latest App Version, i´ve inserted the right code (1044), but it doesn´t work.
After about a minute or two, the Tankbot turns around, but that´s all.
What could be the problem?

Tankbot usually has some charge and doesn’t require charging upon first time use.

For the Android APP, this is a known bug, sorry! We are fixing this. You can use the orange one to control the red.
Will the app work with the latest iPhone update? From the reviews, the answer is NO. I don't see on the app where it has been updated? I would love to get this for all the kids to play with at Christmas but would not want to purchase something that does not work.

I just updated the app on my Droid X and was disappointed to discover that the controls did not change and are not as advertised. I was going to buy one or two more but I will wait untill you get it right with the controls.
Sorry to hear about your concern with the controls. Desk Pets never advertised that the Android controls are similar to the Iphone controls. This is something we are looking to change in a next update.
What would be even cooler is if the connection to the phone had a video and voice mode. Kind of like a roaming little video bug. That way you could control it with the phone and see where it is going from far away.

Hi, i have bought one of these from toys r us, i got home and plugged it in the USB and, well, nothing. No lights, no sounds nothing. Have tried holding reset button down for numerous seconds, same with the mode button. Any help, or is it a geniuinly faulty unit from manufacture? cheers, Kris

Yes. Brookstone version is different and has battle mode so two Tankbots can fight each other.

Tankbot has a rechargeable internal battery. It cannot use replaceable batteries.

What kind of battery does the Univerisal remote take. I set the switch to "on" while connected to my iPhone with the app open and the lights no longer flash and it no longer affects the bot so I am assuming the battery is dead.

Battle tankbots feature different internal hardware than other tankbots.

The control panel I downloaded dos not have the fire button on my iPad . A friend using the iPhone does. Why?
If the tanbot is from Brookstone, it will have battle mode and the product code puts the APP into battle mode. But the tankbot needs to have the battle mode hardware, otherwise it will not work in battle mode.
We got one of each of three colors, sometimes on the screen the red is red other times it is orange. It works well with the Droid Incredible, not well with Droid X and not at all with my child's Acer Tablet Iconia A100. Sad. We were hoping to be able to do some Christmas Battling. I hope that you are still modifying the app so there is hope these will work in the future?

For a red tankbot, the code entered can be “1880″. The red tankbot is a battle mode tankbot and a fire button will appear.

There is no manner in which you can put your own sound files into Tankbot.
I have a Blue Tankbot. The back of my packaging says 1880.
I am not yet able to control it with my iPhone 4S. I have downloaded the app, entered the product code 1880, and selected the image of the Blue Tankbot. It then takes me to the control menu where i have the two tread sliders, stop button, and fire button. Next, i turn on the bot and set it to the third mode. I aim the phone at the black screen and nothing happens when I try to control it.
Also note that the two lights on the audio jack plug in do not and have not light up. The app volume is between 35% and 100%. The app does not make any sound when I move the sliders with or without the Tankbot on.
What am I doing wrong because it seems like everyone else on the website got it right away? is it a problem with the app or with the tankbot?
It seems that in this case your phone volume is on mute. Not the ringer volume, but the sound volume. Once it is un-muted, then the 4S will control the tankbot.

What should I do if the wheels/tracks on my Green Tankbot are not getting traction from the floor? I have used it on the carpet a few times, but I don't think that the carpet would effect the wheels/tracks. After that I started putting it on our hardwood floor, but it is still doing the same thing. It still rides okay, but it will stop after a few seconds and i'll hear this whining sound like it's trying to keep moving, but it can't. I really like this product and I would really like to know how to fix it.

Tankbots from radio shack do not state on the packaging that they battle. Only ones from Brookstone.
Bought an orange Tank bot which worked for about 10 minutes and then it needed charging, no green light, nothing what should have happened. I used the apple iPhone 3s charger, is there a problem with this USB charger device ? Would be happy for an answer, my Tank bot is completely dead !
In order to charge tankbot, you need to flip down the USB connector in the back and make sure it makes contact with the USB port in order for the lights to turn on when it is charging. Sometimes it can be upside down in the USB port and that is the reason for it not charging.
i have the blue tankbot and the Ipod 4th gen with the latest update and i followed all the directions for controller and it doesn't work the light on the universal remote adapter doesnt flash and nothing is happenning. Tell me what to do!

i got a green tankbot with product code 1043. why is it that i cannot turn the thing off no matter how long i pressed the mode button, i tried pressing it while its in each of the three modes, need help stopping this thing.
Try to press the reset button first. Then put the tankbot on a level surface and hold down the mode button for 2 seconds.
